4WARD.VC's May Update: Decarbonizing Dirty Industries & Decreasing Natural Gas Dependence
Hi, how is it going? Anything I can be helpful with?
Just a reminder: if you haven’t already, be sure to join our Climate Techies Whatsapp Group and Slack communities to network & connect with 1000s of like minded climate crusaders and see if/how you can help each other combat climate change
And speaking of incredible companies, it’s time to highlight the newest in 4WARD.VC's Partner in Clime Climate Accelerator program
Fractalytic (Toronto) - Automating commercial and industrial energy management with an AI-based natural gas submetering to save 10-30% on natural gas bills
As you probably know, electrical submetering saves buildings a fortune on energy. Unfortunately, it’s been impossible to replicate with natural gas. Until now!
Fractalytic’s breakthrough sensor can monitor the natural gas usage of an entire building from a single device, providing building energy managers and production crews with the machine-level data needed to report on and optimize their operations for 1/10th the cost and 100x the precision - in real-time!
For an industry used to needing dozens of sensors and waiting 2-3 months for even basic building baseline data, this is a gamechanger.
ASK: Fractalytic has several awesome paid pilots (can’t reveal the names yet) and are looking to meet folks who are responsible for energy management, sustainability or operations for a portfolio of industrial facilities to set up more pilots and help with baselining and decarbonizing industry at scale.
If you know anyone, please reply to this email and I’ll connect you with the team.
And an overview of our other awesome companies!
1. DirtSat simplifies commercial green roof projects & maintenance with ROI analysis platform to help CRE owners (unis, corporates, governments, hotels) decide between green roof (ie. having an urban jungle) and rooftop solar (akin to living in an industrial park…)
ASK: They’re looking for real estate owners and developers, universities and corporate campuses interested in piloting green roof projects (install and maintenance) through their simple platform
2. Aqualitas’ self-aware sensors to help aquaculture and fish farms monitor water quality & contaminants to optimize fish/shrimp yields and prevent disease
Their patented water sensors detect when their sensor quality is deteriorating and proactively (rather than reactively) fix the situation and prevent major health hazards or other issues - and save tons of time/$$/energy for aquaculture
ASK: They’re in talks for pilots with several fish farm and aquaculture companies and looking to establish more to prove their efficiency-boosting tech and scale
3. Myro’s B2B reusable, refillable shampoos and conditioners save hotels 50% while massively reducing their carbon footprint and single use plastic. They’re launching several large chain hotel pilots for waterless cosmetic concentrates and would love intros hotels & cruises
ASK: They’re also raising their $3M seed round ($2M committed w/ lead) and are looking for a few strategic investors to fill out the round
4. REplace Energy helps solar energy developers find ROI-optimized project sites faster. Their patented system algorithmically searches municipalities for ideal sites for developing solar energy projects and synthesizes data sources allowing developers to shortcut months of initial project site research (usually via Google Maps or hiring expensive manual consultants).
ASK: They have several pilots in the works and are looking to meet renewable project developers interested in piloting their solution or any municipalities interested in promoting solar development in their region
ASK 2: They’re also looking to incorporate AI into their product for automated site selection and looking for a motivated AI/ML intern to join the company. Interested, let me know :)
Know anyone who might be interested? Can you help any of the companies?
Karma ALWAYS comes back :)

Thanks and let me know if you can help any of the companies. Happy to make the intro.
And if you’ve got any questions, need any help or aren’t sure about a specific company/intro/or what to do next, happy to help,
Matt
